Hi ladies, we hope you have had an incredibly bank holiday and took advantage of our free delivery weekend, our autumn collection and classics in particular just flew off the shelves! So don’t be shy make sure you get what you came for, gorgeous vintage clothing from your favourite vintage online fashion store!
So what is it about polka dots that make us well, just a little bit dotty?
Quite simply, it is wonderfully classic and course you just cannot wear the print without wanting to wear your best heels and don your favourite rouge for that authentic vintage feel; so surely the print was a fashion phenomena created for those that just love fashion right?
Did you know the earliest common use of polka dots on clothing dates back to the early 19th century, with a mention in what was the equivalent of a quarterly women’s magazine called Godey’s Lady’s Book. For us this is not the interesting part, it is that the print name the ‘polka dot’ was created as a clever form of marketing. Polka music a lively dance that originates from central Europe with many derivations across the world and was incredibly popular at the time and the print was just named after it, in the similar way many products today are made to cash in on the latest trend. The print was no different, as it was assumed the dress featuring the desired print could be worn for polka dances and fortunately down to this connection is perhaps the reason while the print remained in favour, as there were many products with the word ‘polka’ in front of it (polka jacket anyone?) Today the polka print pattern is the only remaining feature that lasted with the name leaving all the polka jackets and hats just a distant memory.
Darling absolutely loves polka dots which is why our gorgeous Eleanor dress is covered in the print- our question is, how will you wear it classically or bring a modern minx to your look. Accessories are available from the online store that often features our products, Leila London.
How would you wear it?
